Deadline Tracker
Enter the target date for your deadline and the calculator will tell you how many whole days remain. It works with any future date you provide, using the current system date as the starting point. The result is a simple count—no projections or assumptions about work speed.
If the deadline is in the past, the tool will show a negative number, indicating how many days have passed since that date.
How it's calculated
Formula
The calculator uses the standard date difference formula:
``` Days Remaining = (Target Date – Today) in days ```
Both dates are converted to a Julian day number (the count of days since a fixed epoch) and then subtracted. No leap‑second adjustments are needed for everyday use; the Gregorian calendar rules for leap years are applied automatically by the underlying date library.
Worked example
Suppose today is 2026‑09‑28 and the deadline is 2026‑12‑31.
- Convert each date to a day count (e.g., using the Unix epoch):
- - Today (2026‑09‑28) → 1,992,345 days
- - Deadline (2026‑12‑31) → 1,992,436 days
- Subtract: 1,992,436 – 1,992,345 = 91 days remaining.
The tool will display 91.
